New CQ environment

I had a chance to attend the Adobe Summit 2013 conference recently, where they announced the new Adobe Experience Manager. It is essentially a rebrand of CQ, version 5.6. They have made some strides to bring their entire suite of products under one roof, as the Adobe Marketing Cloud.

I wanted to take a minute to explain some differences in the new environment that might feel weird if you have used a previous version of CQ. So let’s take a look.

new-initial-admin-screenAs you can see (from the screenshot) this is much different from the screen you are used to seeing. One of the things that Adobe wanted to do was to make the system much friendlier for tablet or touch devices. It’s unlikely that you will want to do the majority of your development and authoring work through such a device, but now you at least have the option. And I must say that this interface is pretty usable from such a device.

One of my first questions though was where are all the controls I used to have after I logged in? How do I find CRXDE Lite? Where is my siteadmin panel? etc. Essentially “this isn’t the same as what I am used to using”.

tools-menu-screenThankfully they did not get rid of them. If you select the Tools tab on the bottom left you will see a lot of those things you are used to. But if you are like me and you have to be dragged kicking and screaming when things change, don’t worry.

simple-sidebar-with-hover-textIf you take your mouse and put it on the tab you have selected, you will see an icon of a computer monitor on the right side of the tab. This icon shows up for all of the tabs you see listed, when you have them selected. If you click on the icon, it opens up a new tab in your browser, to show you the old CQ list of admin options.

As I mentioned, this works for all of those tabs we had listed on the left. So if you select Sites, and then click on the monitor icon. Again a new tab opens up and you can see the siteadmin that you are used to. If you have any questions or comments, please contact us at [email protected].
